Welcome to the Shareswatch Australia discussion forum. The aim of this area of the website is to allow people to discuss more freely a variety of issues related to previous blog topics or provide site feedback.

Well it is time to reflect once again on some of the stock positions I have taken over the last 6 months or so. Although this is often a painful experience, I would suggest to anyone who invests in shares to regularly reflect on how their portfolio is tracking and revisit the reasons why they purchased (or sold) a particular stock. Often we can learn a little about our own investing style if we have a brutal look at our past investments and this may help us make better investment decisions in the future.

Like most stock market investors I will end the year well and truly bruised.  Although I wrote earlier in the year that 2008 would not be a good for Australian shares, I have to admit I did not think it was going to be this bad. Therefore I am hesitant to make any comments regarding the Australian stock market in 2009 as I am sure to find little turns out as I expect.  However just as Nigel Tufnel was able to rise above substandard catering on the Spinal Tap Tour, I am going to rise above the current carnage and outline what I think will happen as next year unfolds.
