I have set up a simple portfolio that I track from time to time called the <a href="http://www.shareswatch.com.au/blog/category/random-portfolio/" rel="nofollow">Shareswatch Random Portfolio</a> (there is a link to this down at the bottom of the site) At the moment I have not included dividends as that is a bit time consuming. However what I plan to do is look at the Accumulation Indexes in more detail as dividends/distributions are an important and just tracking the All Ords/ASX 200 doesn't give us the full picture.
