Update: Seems Harvey Norman's move into Ireland continue to put a drag on profits: <a href="http://www.smh.com.au/business/irish-eyes-arent-smiling-on-harvey-norman-20101003-162sy.html" rel="nofollow">Irish eyes aren't smiling on Harvey Norman</a>

According to the SMH article above:

"Harvey Norman's 16 stores in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland lost $42.6 million last financial year, weighing heavily on the company's overall net profit of $231 million. Its Irish operations have only turned an annual profit once since it began trading in 2003."

Ouch!

Looks like Harvey Norman and the retailers are doing it tough and I suspect this year will not be very kind to them either. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/news/discounts-are-sending-retailers-broke-says-gerry-harvey/story-e6frg90f-1225834833789

Anon, yes I saw what Buffet and Soros have been up to...mind you they are able to hide some trades if they are works in progress so they might be up to more than we know. Looks like they feel the market has been trading around a long term bottom...they are probably right. (who would bet against them?)

I did not jump on silver (or gold), I just hold diversified miners. I simply don't have the knowledge to be a commodities guy. Sounds like you did well though!

NTT and KDDI are interesting stocks....I also like Toshiba and some of the Japanese mega banks.

I am sort of out of the loop when it comes to U.S. stocks sorry, although I do watch Walmart, Cisco and McDonalds.

Thanks for the Analysis Greg. I didn't really know much about Harvey so you've filled in some of my missing knowledge.

Did you see Warrens latest 13f filing? He's almost doubled his stake in Walmart.
I'm trying to understand this purchase. Divdends have grown, eps grown and shares on issue have decreased in the last 10 years. ROE 20-22% over the years. Looks pretty good. Meanwhile the shareprice is where it was in the late 90's. Net Debt to net profit ratio pretty low.
Soros is also increasing his holdings in Walmart. Something is clearly going on here.
Did we all get on Silver? Thats the mispricing of the century in comparison to gold ! New highs and bluesky ahoy ;)
Oh i've added to my USD position again.
Some new US equity positions: OSG (Shipping), TPC (Construction)
Some Japanese equity positions on my watchlist: NTT Docomo and KDDI Corp.

Above not advice, please seek a financial advisor for financial advice. Do you own research :)
