ASX All Ordinaries Index 2012 charts review.

January 2nd, 2013 · 3 Comments

In 2012 the Australian stock market finished the year higher with the ASX All Ordinaries Index posting a gain of around 12% to close at 4663.30 points.  Unsurprisingly much of the financial media excitedly churned out headlines suggesting stocks were soaring and many commentators focused on the annual rally being the best since 2009.  However if we look past the nonsensical rambling of much of the mainstream media the reality is  that All Ords has in reality simply moved back up to a level below where it finished at the end of 2009 and is still way below the pre-GFC market high.

ASX All Ordinaries Index – review of 5, 10 and 25 year charts

October 17th, 2012 · 1 Comment

The Australian stock market closed up again today with the ASX All Ordinaries Index finishing at 4550.90 points – a rise of 0.82% for the day.  The last couple of months have been generally kind to Australian stocks but we need to keep this recent stock market movement in perspective.

Australian stock market outlook and forecast for Q4 2012

October 1st, 2012 · 22 Comments

As we enter the last quarter of trading for 2012 we are confronted by a market which appears to be trending upwards since bottoming out in June on one hand, and a gloomy outlook for the global economy on the other. Surprisingly if we have another good few months the ASX All Ordinaries Index could be up near 5000 by the end of the year which just a few months ago, appeared very unlikely.

ASX All Ordinaries Index Charts & Trends – August 2012

August 19th, 2012 · 36 Comments

Now that the Australian stock market has staged a very modest rally over the last few weeks an assortment of finance writers, brokers & market watchers will begin to speculate if this rally is the start of something big.  Indeed if we focus on the short term the market has done fairly well over the last few weeks, however the longer term trend suggests that the Australian stock market is still stuck in a rut.

Today we will look at three shares which are in the category of former stock market high flyers: Billabong International, Macquarie Group & Perpetual Limted.

Stock charts review: ASX All Ords, AGK, DJS, WPL, NAB & LEI

June 21st, 2012 · 1 Comment

The last month or so has been quite a ride for Australian stock market investors with the ASX All Ordinaries Index falling from around 4500 points to around 4000 points.  The continuing economic woes in Europe, the economic slowdown in China and the stagnant U.S economy have worked to drag the share market down as have signs that the Australian domestic economy is showing signs of weakness.

Is the Australian stock market reaching a bottom?

May 25th, 2012 · 15 Comments

For sometime I have been talking about the Australian stock market searching for a bottom of around 4000 for the ASX All Ordinaries & S&P/ASX 200. At of the close of markets yesterday, both indices were around that level, so could this mean the Australian stock market has reached a bottom?

Are Australian stocks poised to trend lower?

May 8th, 2012 · 36 Comments

There is nothing particularly exciting about the Australian stock market these days. The malaise which has essentially paralysed the government seems to have spread to the business sector which in turn is slowly sucking the lifeblood out of the share market. It’s unlikely that things will improve soon and so investors should prepare themselves for the market to move lower over the next few months.

Stock charts review: BHP, RIO, GMI, GFF, S&P/ASX 200 Financials & Small Ordinaries Index.

Australian stocks seem to be enjoying a broad rally today and I suspect the mainstream financial media will churn out bullish sounding headlines when the market closes.  But if we step back and review a few charts it’s pretty clear that the Australian stock market is stuck in a rut and I don’t see it breaking free any time soon.

Are Australian stocks set to ride another bull market?

January 27th, 2012 · 23 Comments

Recently the markets appear to have settled somewhat and the Australian stock market has steadily been heading higher so far in 2012. Could we be seeing the early signs of another bull market taking hold or are we about to see another sharp correction take the ASX All Ordinaries back down towards 4000 and perhaps lower?

Stock market & investment trends for 2012 and beyond.

January 16th, 2012 · 7 Comments

At the start of last year I did not update my Australian stock market trends simply because I thought the market was basically going nowhere. This year however I feel it is worth looking at some interesting sectors again in an attempt to pick out some areas where investors might be able to find bargains and position themselves for the next bull market.

Australian stock market outlook & forecast for 2012

January 8th, 2012 · 60 Comments

The ASX All Ordinaries Index and S&P/ASX 200 Index finished much lower than I expected in 2011, so this makes me somewhat reluctant to go on record and make an Australian stock market forecast for 2012. However the process of looking at the various economic data and trying to guess where the market will end is a useful one, so foolishly I will outline once again my Australian stock market forecast for the year ahead.

Australian stock market charts review: market close 2011

December 31st, 2011 · 12 Comments

The Australian stock market has finished trading for the year with the ASX All Ordinaries & S&P & ASX 200 both closing around 15% lower for 2011. It has been a disappointing year for share market investors (yet again) with even the mining stocks stumbling lower over the last 12 months. Many investors might be under the impression that the market slid back over the last few months of 2011, however the Australian stock market has been trending down since as far back as April.

Australian stocks aren’t bouncing, they’re limping.

November 29th, 2011 · 12 Comments

If you were to believe some of the ramblings on mainstream media sites you might get the impression that Australian stocks have on occasions bounced back strongly and that in some way this is a reflection of how well the Australian economy is doing. However the reality is that the Australian stock market has been trending downwards since July and many stocks are simply limping from one week to the next.

Stockwatch: Qantas (QAN), Telstra (TLS) and Onesteel (OST)

November 10th, 2011 · 19 Comments

In the midst this stock market turmoil there may be some battered down stocks which present the opportunity for investors to buy shares in quality companies at bargain prices. Three Australian companies that might fall into that category are Qantas Airways, Telstra Corporation and Onesteel Limited.
